The polymethehylmetaacrylate or PMMA, is a synthetic thermoplastic polymer with high transparency. It is used as a substitution for glass, as the material is in general lighter, softer, processed more easily, and transmits UV and roentgen rays, while filtering infrared ones. It is less diffusive than glass (92-93% vs. 99%).
As a whole, PMMA finds similar applications to glass, but its mainly used in products, where its advantages, such as ease of processing, price, color effects and light diffusion, are preferred. PMMA is widely spread for processing, interior, automotive, apparel and advertising uses.
