PEI (polyetherimide) is an amorphous polymer with a unique transparent amber color resistant to high temperatures. The material fulfils the highest requirements in terms of temperature resistance (continuous operating temperatures depending on the application and types from 170°C possible) and at the same time, is flame retardant due to its chemical makeup without flame proofing additives and at the same time, boasts very low smoke emission. It is characterized by its high strength, which can be further enhanced through the addition of fiber glass or carbon fibers. Its above-average dimensional stability and low tracking tendency complete the wide range of properties of polyetherimide. All these properties make the material an ideal candidate for the automotive and aviation industry. This thermoplastic is also commonly used in the communications and medical technology sectors.
